The melee in Kirinyaga County has intensified after Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka revealed he is yet to receive any notification from the Kirinyaga County Assembly regarding the impeachment of Governor Anne Waiguru. Waiguru, who is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga, was impeached in a dramatic four-hour session in which 23 out of 33 MCAs voted in favor of the impeachment motion sponsored by the Mutira ward MCA Kinyua Wangui.
I have not yet received any notification from the Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker regarding the impeachment of Governor @AnneWaiguru. My office will act accordingly once we receive the communication and documents in evidence of the Assembly proceedings today (June 9, 2020).

Waiguru was accused of gross misconduct and abuse of office including the procurement of a Sh5 million official vehicle using funds meant for Contractors Retention Account. The MCAs have also accused her of undermining the authority of the House and also causing havoc in the Health Department after sacking medics.
The MCAs acted despite a court order issued to halt the impeachment proceedings. The embattled Governor has since issued a press statement terming the impeachment motion illegal. In the statement, she reiterated that she would not be bullied. ‘My single and unceasing interest is to serve the people who elected me. All else will be vindicated by the Law, the Truth and Justice.
