Director General of Health has on 14th July 2020 indicated that the Nairobi based Pumwani Maternity Hospital shall remain open to handle complicated delivery cases. Dr. Patrick Amoth was speaking after it emerged that 41 members of staff at the hospital tested positive for the Coronavirus disease.
Dr. Amoth has also clarified that the 41 members of staff have since been taken to an isolation centre set up at the hospital for health workers that do not meet the criteria for home based care.
Patients have been advised to access maternal healthcare from adjacent facilities including the Eastleigh Health Centre.
CS Mutahi Kagwe had indicated that the Ministry of Health had prioritised the safety of health care workers since they are exposed to an increased risk of contracting the disease.
