MCAs threaten to impeach Sonko, declare support for NMS.

A section of Nairobi MCAs have cautioned Governor Mike Sonko over what they term as interference with the work NMS has been doing in Nairobi County. This comes a day after 51 MCAs allied to the embattled governor Monday’s meeting comes just a day after MCAs allied to Sonko hatched a plot to oust County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi after claiming she was the reason the embattled governor and NMS Director General Mohamed Badi are squabbling.

The MCAs declared total support for the Nairobi Metropolitan Services and argued that Sonko had been unable to deliver on his mandate. ”As an Assembly, we are now fully focused on supporting NMS to realise developments in our Wards. We are happy that NMS and its directors are embracing the Assembly by responding to our enquiries thanks to the sober leadership of Hon. Beatrice Elachi, said a Nairobi MCA.  ”Sonko has all along been pretending to be launching projects and programmes, none of which he has implemented”, another city MCA chided in.

Governor Sonko has recently threatened to renege on a deal with the National Government which he signed on 25th February 2020 transferring some of the functions from the County Government to the National Government. In a letter dated July 24, 2020, Governor Sonko said he intended to terminate the Deed of Transfer of Functions claiming that the said Deed had patent illegalities.
