Police in Kiambu have launched a manhunt for six suspects who escaped from the cells of Karuri Police Station in Kiambu County on Wednesday July 29.
The six who included five remandees and a convict successfully pulled off the escape from the police cell after cutting part of the cell toilet window.
Kimabu County police boss Ali Nuno confirmed the incident stating that investigations into the escape have been launched.
“The matter is subject to investigations, it is being alleged that they escaped through the window in a toilet, only six prisoners can be in a toilet in a given time,” noted Nuno.
Their escape, however, was not smooth sailing as Corporal Boniface Simiyu and Boniface Mwanzia who were on duty were alerted by noise from one of the cells.
Seeking to investigate the cause of the commotion, the two corporals found the metal bars in one of the ventilation window cut and left on the floor.
After conducting a headcount it was established that out of the 26 prisoners who were in custody, six of them were missing.
A manhunt for the six suspects was initiated by the Sub County Police Commander alongside other officers to apprehend them.
