Makueni Senator calls for the impeachment of Speaker Ken Lusaka

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo has called for the impeachment of Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka after he adjourned a special session that had been convened to debate on counties revenue allocation and sharing.

Through his Twitter account, the lawmaker said that the Speaker ought to be impeached ‘for adjourning the Senate unlawfully’.

This is not the first time that the session has been pushed forward. Reports indicate that Speaker Lusaka had on Tuesday, 21st July 2020, called for the sitting to debate on the formula of allocation of revenue to counties in a bid to unlock county funds. The meeting was subsequently convened in the afternoon and a report by the Finance committee tabled after which the session was adjourned for 30 minutes to allow the Senators to read the report. The House later reconvened but Minority Leader James Orengo proposed another adjournment to allow the members to consult on the report.

Meanwhile, several members seem to agree with the Makueni Senator. Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina said that the Senate should not be adjourned ‘like a village meeting’.
