Speaking after the signing ceremony, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka lauded President Kenyatta’s efforts in uniting the country and reiterated that Wiper was committed to supporting the government’s agenda. He was flanked by Wiper SG Judith Sijeny, Chairperson Chirau Ali Mwakere and Vice Chair Mutula Kilonzo Jr. Kalonzo hinted that further talks were ongoing with the Jubilee Party on whether the cooperation would morph into a coalition even though Wiper is still a member of the NASA Coalition.

CCM Leader Isaac Rutto was accompanied by Party officials including the SG Bundotich Buzeki. The signing of the agreement comes just a month after the Jubilee Party signed a post-election coalition pact with KANU. The coalition agreement with KANU and the cooperation with CCM has been largely interpreted as a move to water down DP Ruto’s influence in the Rift as President Kenyatta moves to galvanise support for his agenda as he winds up his term.
