The Jubilee Party has on Thursday endorsed the former Makadara MP Benson Mutura for the position of Speaker of the County Assembly of Nairobi following the resignation of the immediate former Speaker Beatrice Elachi. Mutura’s name was among seven in a shortlist of candidates announced by the acting clerk Pauline Akuku.
Speaking to members of the press after a consultative meeting on the matter, SG Raphael Tuju indicated that Mutura had been agreed upon as the party’s candidate.
”We have had serious confrontations among the members of the county assembly and the leadership of Nairobi. I’m aware that there are five or six people who have shown interest in the contest for the seat which became vacant,” he said. ”We have zeroed in as a party and support Benson Mutura as the Jubilee candidate. All other candidates are free to go lobby MCAs but as for the 66 MCAs, our candidate is Mutura.
The election will be held on Friday, 14th August 2020.
