Interior Ministry CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i has on Thursday July 9, held a consultative meeting with the leadership of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, at his Harambee House office.
According to CS Matiang’i, the meeting was to discuss the health protocols that have been unveiled by the Interfaith Council to guide congregational worship, ahead of the reopening of the place of worship slated for Tuesday July 14.
The meeting also discussed the role of the church in providing spiritual guidance, at a time when the entire world continues to face uncertainties occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In attendance were SDA President of General Conference East-Central Africa Division, Dr. Blasiouis Ruguri and Pastor Samuel Makori who is the President of the East and Central Kenya Union.
Days ago the interfaith Council announced the reopening of the places of Worship from Tuesday July 14 under strict guidelines to safeguard congregants from contracting COVID-19.
The announcement was made by the Chairperson of the Interfaith Council Archbishop Anthony Muheria, a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta declared a phased re-opening of the country that had been on a partial lockdown since March.
To ensure compliance of the coronavirus directives, Muheria said every place of worship will be expected to form a COVID-19 committee that will be in charge of monitoring the adherence of the new measures.
