A joint team of officers drawn from the DCI and the Kenya Wildlife Services have on Sunday arrested 5 people found in possession of two jumbo tusks weighing 18kg. The 5, including a deputy headteacher at a local school, were apprehended in Kajiado county where they had gone to seek a potential buyer. The joint team was also able to recover a Toyota Probox owned by one of the suspects and a motorbike.
The arrest comes barely a month after an elephant was found killed by suspected poachers at Emotoroki area in Kajiado County. All the suspects have been placed in custody pending arraignment, with the KWS Intelligence and Investigatiob Unit notified of the developments to initiate further procedural action.
