Emurua Dikir MP Johanna Ng’eno loses 24 dairy cows after consuming artificial minerals

Detectives in Narok County  are investigating circumstances under which 24 dairy cows died after consuming artificial minerals.

The herd of hybrid friesian cows  belonging to Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno were confirmed dead on the afternoon on Friday, June 12, after they were fed on the minerals. 

Though it was not immediately established whether the product was responsible for the deaths, one of Nge’no’s farm workers claimed they began falling one after the other. 

Photos obtained by Niaje.co.ke newsroom indicated the mineral product was manufactured by an Irish company but was available in major local agrovets.

The farm hand at Ngeno’s farm who only identified himself as Frederick Mutai, also said he immediately alerted a vet of the incident but efforts to resuscitate the animals did not succeed.

“The cows began shivering, foaming in the mouth and running wild before dropping dead one after the other five minutes after consuming the mineral salt,” he said.
