Deputy President William Ruto has on 9th July 2020 hosted young people in his Karen residence for an empowerment programme for Nairobi youth and women groups. He was flanked by youthful leaders including Embakasi West MP George Theuri, Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru, Langata MP Nixon Korir and Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga.
The DP embarked on the empowerment program in June 2020, targeting 5,000 young entrepreneurs in a bid to boost their efforts and cushion them from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Langata MP Nixon Korir indicated that the programme had already reached many youth in Nairobi, ”Once today’s meeting is over, we shall already have met over 3,000 youth. We have also met with over 150 youth groups”.
The DP presented the youth groups with an assortment of items including wheelbarrows, carts, power generators, screen printing equipment, water tanks and salon equipment. He also received outdoor benches that he had ordered from two young entrepreneurs named Stephen Odhiambo and Dennis Omondi.
”I had their balance, which they asked me top up and buy a specialised machine that will help them fasten their workmanship,” said the DP.
