The Ministry of Health has on Sunday confirmed that 960 more people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the caseload in the country to 17,603. The 960 were part of a sample of 8,261 tested in the last 24 hours. The cumulative samples tested in the country now stands at 276,415. Sunday’s confirmed cases are the highest to be reported in the country yet, and come just a day before a scheduled meeting between the national and county governments convened with the aim of addressing the surge in cases.
A total of 169 patients have recovered from the disease, 86 of whom had been placed under home-based care while 83 in various hospitals. The cumulative number of recoveries now stand at 7,743. CS Kagwe also said that 2 more people have succumbed to the disease, raising the death toll to 280.
Out of the 960 cases, Nairobi was leading with 510 new infections, followed by Kajiado with 102, Kiambu with 100, Machakos with 58, Mombasa with 48, Busia with 21, Garissa with 17, Uasin Gishu with 15, Kisumu with 14, Nakuru with 12 and Narok with 10.
