Kenya has on Wednesday August 12 recorded an additional 679 new Covid-19 cases raising the total number of cases in the country to 28,104.
According to Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi during the daily Covid-19 status briefing, the new cases are from 6,590 samples that have been tested over the last 24 hours with cumulative tests now at 369,051.
743 patients have however been discharged from various facilities including the home based care program raising the total number of recoveries to 14,610.
Unfortunately 18 people have succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of fatalities to 456 in the country. Of the 18 deaths, 15 had underlying conditions.
Among the dead was a health official, Kamau Mugenda, who was stationed at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri).
CAS Mwangangi eulogized the late Mugenda as a diligent public servant, adding that he would be buried later on in the day.
Mwangangi also urged Kenyans to continue following the laid down guidelines, adding that the Ministry have joined hands with private partners in the fight against the pandemic.
“We have held hands with private partners in the fight against Covid-19. Partnership is geared towards mobilizing and targeting resources and deployments”, Mwangangi stated.
