COVID-19 UPDATE: 11 more Covid-19 related deaths as Kenya surpass 16000 mark in case load.

Kenya has on Friday July 24, recorded an additional 667 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases in Kenya to 16,268.

During the daily Covid-19 status briefing by the Health Ministry, Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi stated that 311 patients have been discharged from various facilities, including the home-based care program bringing the total number of recoveries to 7,746.

Out of the 311, 166 patients were discharged from the home-based care programme while 145 were discharged from health facilities.

The distribution of cases in the cases in counties is as follows; Nairobi (387), Kiambu (40), Mombasa (26), Machakos (47), Kajiado (79), Nakuru (15), Uasin Gishu (14), Garissa (11), Busia (9), Kilifi (6), Turkana (6), Makueni (5), Wajir (5), Kisumu (4), Nyeri (4), Lamu (4), Murang’a (2), Bomet (1), Bungoma (1), Narok (1), Nyamira (1), Vihiga (1).

Unfortunately 11 people succumbed to the disease taking the total number of fatalities to 274. A child with rickets was among the deaths.

“We have observed that we’re witnessing a majority of the deaths in patients who have underlying issues such as diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS amongst others,” the CAS stated.

Mwangangi noted 96 percent of HIV positive individuals, who have been confirmed to be covid-19 positive, were on life-saving treatment.
