Changes in the National Assembly Leadership of Committees

Below is the full list of the changes in the National Assembly Committees’ Leadership. The changes are part of the purge by Jubilee party which was seen to target rebel MPs  who defied the president’s order to halt early 2022 succession campaigns and who are close allies of the Deputy President William Ruto.

In the changes Kieni MP Kanini Kega has reaped big after being elected the chair of the powerful budget and appropriation committee, taking over from Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa (a very close ally of  DP Ruto) who was kicked out.

ODM has also reaped big from the changes with ODM Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma were appointed to the crucial Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

Homa Bay Woman Representative Galdys Wanga will chair the Finance and Planning Committee making her the first female leader to hold the position. She takes over from Kipkelion East MP Joseph Kirui Limo and will be deputised by Roysambu MP Isaac Waihenya Ndirangu in the committee.

“I will endeavor to serve the nation diligently in this new responsibility. I thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for his magnanimity and my party leader Raila Odinga for his faith in me”, Wanga stated after her appointment.
