Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza dies of heart attack aged 55. According to government reports in Burundi the president passed away on Monday, after being taken ill and admitted at a local hospital on Saturday.
His condition then improved but on Monday he had a cardiac arrest and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Mr Nkurunziza was due to hand over power to his successor Evariste Ndayishimiye in August, having served for 15 years.
