Senior counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has delivered a scathing review of the BBI process, terming it as illegitimate. The constitutional lawyer was speaking during an interview with NTV on Sunday evening. He said that the BBI was created by President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in their quest to change the Constitution without involving Kenyans. ”My view as a Kenyan is that the BBI is an illegitimate process and an unconstitutional way to amend the Constitution. President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga who decided on their on without any prodding that the Constitution needs to be amended. They have not consulted Kenyans and if they have, it has been in a very cavalier manner,” said Ahmednassir. He went on to say, ”just imagine that the entire constitutional sup-structure (sic) of this country is being changed at the whims of two people.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is on record intimating that the time to amend the Constitution had arrived. In his 57th Madaraka Day address at State House Nairobi, the Head of State said that he had discerned a constitutional moment.
